Historically Colourful Village

Saturday, July 27th, 2013 – Sunday, July 28th, 2013

This weekend was my first full weekend in the city in four weeks!  I attended yoga, went to the beach, and went to a goodbye dinner for Chris on Saturday, who was planning on leaving Korea on Tuesday for Taiwan.

On Sunday, Aimee, Chris and I went to Taeguk Village.  We had a lovely time.  For me, I was very pleasantly surprised.  This area reminded me of Latin America or the Mediterranean.  Okay, I might be slightly exaggerating, but to be surrounded by beige, grey, brown buildings on a daily basis, and to them see some interesting architecture, colour and culture, was a truly enjoyable experience for me and brought back many positive memories.

We were told, this area was a very poor part of the city, so the government painted the buildings to try and improve morale for the people living there.  In my opinion, if something as simple as a bit of colour, some art, sculptures and gardens can make such a difference for people, why are more places not following cue?  Either way, this experience was very exciting and enriching.  It was almost like we left Korea for the afternoon and went somewhere with a slower pace, positive and creative atmosphere.  Even though I stayed in Busan this weekend for the first time in a while, I think I had the most rewarding break from the city by visiting this area!
