Lunar New Year
Happy 설날 Seollal
This holiday in Korea is their version of the
New Year (although they still celebrate our New Year and it is called Solar New Year) and is one the biggest holiday's of the year and a bigger holiday than Christmas. It is on the same day as Chinese New Year and has similar
customs. Many Korean’s give gifts
to celebrate this holiday including their employees :)
Present from my co-worker (giant apples and spam <yes spam is a normal gift to give for this holiday>) and from one of my directors (face cleanser)
The actual New Year day is Sunday, but Monday is
a holiday, and the entire long weekend is used for this holiday. Korean’s travel to spend time with
their family and they pray for their ancestors.
My school gave all of the children 2000 Won on
Friday as a gift for the New Year!
One of my students Julia. She is holding the envelope my co-workers folded to put the 2000 Won in for each student!
