This weekend we participated in one of the most popular
festivals amongst foreigners and koreans alike, Mudfest!
We embarked on a two-day journey that involved a five-hour bus ride on
Saturday morning and a five-hour bus ride back, Sunday afternoon. We arranged this trip a couple months
in advance to make sure we had a spot on the bus and a place to stay in a
pension. Many busloads of people
came from all over Korea to this small town famous for its mud!
After waking up at 5:30am in the morning, arriving at our
destination and preparing for our sun, fun and muddy afternoon, we finally made
it to the main area to enjoy our day!
This town was on the coast and had a beach, so it was exciting for me to
see a new beach. This beach had
some really nice shells; a larger tide then Busan and a longer beach to walk
on.
First we smothered ourselves with mud and then waited in the
giant line so we could access some of the mud rides. This year, a ton of people came to the festival and we had
to wait in line for thirty minutes to get into the main area and then another
hour plus to run across the obstacle course and another hour plus to slide down
the inflatable slide. It was, of
course worth it, especially since one of the main reasons we came all of that
way was to spend some time in the mud!
That night they had a beautiful firework display that was
coordinated to music and was very impressive! We went to bed early and the next day I went for a walk
along the beach, unfortunately when we returned, our stuff had been soaked in
the tide but luckily it was just a towel and my flip-flops, which I had to
rescue from the water! Overall, it
was a cool experience and a good way to see more of Korea!
